BEFORE
I am a furrower. Like, big time. It makes me look like I’m mad, even when I’m not. And it causes a whole lot of lines. Also, my right eyebrow is quite a big higher than my left. It’s one of those things that other people probably don’t notice, but I did and it always bugged me.
AFTER
Lines be gone! I just love the smooth forehead (not shiny smooth, just right smooth). I think it takes a few years off. And, my eyebrows are more even. Yay.
Here’s from Rachel, my Injector: “We went light in the forehead, so we didn’t drop your lids, and light around the eyes.”
TIPS
I’ve gone to both a Dermatologist and MedSpa for Botox, and I prefer a MedSpa. Generally, they have someone who specializes in Botox and that person is an expert. Go to the expert! Rather than going to a Dermatologist, who has more important things going on and tends to rush.
Make sure you go to a 2 week follow up! This is so important. There are almost always tweaks that need to be made, but you HAVE to wait 2 weeks for the full results to set in. Otherwise, you could run into trouble and bad Botox. No, no, no.
YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
WHERE DID YOU GO?
I saw Rachel at Image MedSpa in Wilmette! If you’re local, I highly recommend her. She’s the expert.
HOW MANY UNITS DID YOU GET?
36 units, which is a relatively light dose.
DO YOU GET BOTOX WHILE YOU’RE NURSING?
Talk to your Pediatrician about this. Mine did approve it, but I waited until we were down to one nursing sesh and it was really only for comfort.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
So there’s Botox and Dysport, and I actually got Dysport. It kicks in sooner (starts working after a few days), but tends not to last quite as long. It tends to last 3 months or so, maybe a bit less.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
It depends on where you go, but for me it was about $420.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET IT?
I have had a hot and cold relationship with Botox, and I blame the babies. Ha. Pregnancy notwithstanding, I will get it about every 4 months or so, depending on when it wears off.
IF YOU GET IT ONCE, DO YOU NEED TO KEEP GETTING IT?
Yes, if you want the results. There is some thinking that since it paralyzes the muscles, they get weaker over time, thus resulting in less wrinkles overall. But also, after years of getting it, it’s possible your body could get used to it, and it could have less effectiveness. But generally, I would say that once you get it, you will probably want to keep getting it.
AT WHAT AGE DID YOU START GETTING IT?
I first got Botox before my wedding, when I was 32. I didn’t get it again until I was 38, after my second baby, and then waited until after Baby Gray to get it again, when I was 39.
GOOD OR BAD FOR HEADACHES?
I didn’t get it for headaches, but I know that Botox can be used to treat migraines. If you suffer from headaches or migraines, definitely talk to your Dr about Botox as an option!

Did you have any bruising or did anyone notice after you had the Botox?
Sometimes I have little marks, but they go away after a day!
