Our mom is back on the podcast! We talk about the importance of grunge and Nirvana. I break down Will Smith’s apology (lame) and get way too candid about an Oscar winner who isn’t as he seems. Jay and Mom talk about the Kansas abortion vote and what it might signal.

The One With OJ Simpson and Dead Duck Day Brand New Information

Today Jay and Suzanne commemorate two infamous 1990s events – OJ Simpson’s Ford Bronco slow speed police chase and… Dead Duck Day? Plus, on this week’s Fibronostalgia – Did you know you could break a Hypercolor shirt? Jay and Suzanne know, because they did! And Suzanne’s fibronostalgia breaks the fourth wall to examine the meaning that nostalgia has in our lives. Follow Jay on Instagram & Twitter, and Suzanne on Instagram!

Alcohol Is a Scam with Real Sober Mom Chelsea The Sober Mom Life

Today’s real sober mom Chelsea grew up in a home where alcohol wasn’t seen as a problem. As the child of two drug addicts, Chelsea was raised to view alcohol as a ‘safe choice’ in comparison to hard drugs. So, when Chelsea began drinking at age 14 she thought nothing of it. Chelsea went to work in retail right out of high school to be there for her family. After meeting her future husband in New York, she pivoted into becoming a funeral director – a career path rife with alcoholism due to the emotional heaviness of the job. Things took a very challenging turn in 2020. Shortly after the birth of her son who had congenital defects, Covid arrived and Chelsea’s work became extremely intense. The circumstances took a toll and she began experiencing worrisome health issues. Tests revealed she had muscular dystrophy. Shortly after, Chelsea received a call. Her father had OD’d. Facing her father’s death and the changes in her own life, Chelsea realized she never wanted to put her children through anything like what she’d experienced with her parents. She was looking for a change. All of this led to a casual plan with her husband to take a short break from alcohol in December of 2023. During this brief window, Chelsea had a massive wakeup call. She learned alcohol’s impacts on our bodies and lives, and how big alcohol was preying on moms to get them addicted. Chelsea realized – big alcohol had scammed her! She wasn’t going to let that stand.  Chelsea is now 2 ½ years sober! She wants you to know there is never a ‘perfect’ time to begin sobriety. The best time to start is now. Community makes all the difference. THE ART OF STOPPING TIME

I’m not sure if it’s because I’m in my 40’s or if it’s motherhood or both, but lately the passage of time is really freaking me out. For me, quitting alcohol is so much about attempting to slow it all down. I picked up this book last year at Miraval and I’m finally getting to it. It’s a 100 day journey – it sounds like a lot, but it takes 5 minutes in the morning and is such a simple way to change how I look at my life and time. I’m loving it.

I’ve shared my favorite long torso (and regular torso!) swimsuit many times before, but I’m not going to stop because it’s that good. It’s on sale and in stock in most sizes. I also linked the solid colors below.
