Hi, sweet friends. Baby Gray is 11 months old and I’m hanging so tightly onto these days before his 1st birthday. He’s such a sweet, funny baby. Also I deserve some sort of award for getting this photo because he’s never not trying to eat everything, including the monthly cards.

HEIGHT + WEIGHT
He’s solid! And comes up to my knees. #thirdbaby
BREASTFEEDING
Did you know it’s National Breastfeeding Week? I always have a complicated relationship with breastfeeding, and my mixed feelings gain steam as I approach the 12 month mark.
I have so much to share about breastfeeding. I am working on a post sharing my tips for getting through those first 2 weeks and another post about dealing with all of the feelings that come with weaning. Stay tuned for those.
For now, Baby Gray doesn’t show any signs of wanting to wean. I still nurse him before (and sometimes after) each nap and at night before bed. He’s still getting up in the night once to nurse. If he takes a tumble during the day, he wants to nurse. If he’s sleepy or cranky, he wants to nurse. During the witching hour, he wants to nurse.
I’m trying to go with it and follow his lead. I know too well that he’ll be done, and I’ll long for that connection.
FOOD
This boy LOVES his food. He’s eating anything and everything. Here’s a list:
Ramen, mac and cheese, bananas, avocado, spaghetti, grilled cheese, toasted bagels, peanut butter toast, scrambled eggs, shredded cheese, peas, Dr. Praeger’s Broccoli Littles and Spinach Littles, Annie’s stars and ravioli, mini pancakes, yogurt and so much more.
ROUTINE
Our routine is pretty much the same as it was last month. His naps are becoming more consistent and are around 1.5 hours each. Also, I’m slowly trying to stretch his bedtime to 7pm.
- 630/7 AM – Wake up + nurse
- 730 – 9 AM – Eat breakfast + play
- 9 -1030/11 AM – Nurse + 1st nap (The length of his nap varies, but it’s starting to become more consistent and is usually around 1.5 hours.)
- 11 AM – 1230/1 PM – Nurse after nap, play and lunch
- 1230/1 – 3 PM – Nurse + 2nd nap
- 3 – 6PM – Nurse after nap, play + dinner
- 6 – 630 PM – Bath (not every night) + bedtime routine
- 630/7 PM – In crib for bedtime
SLEEP
Sleep. Oh, sweet sweet sleep. One day I’ll sleep, right?
He’s a tough one when it comes to sleep. I did sleep train him a few months ago (you can read that post here), and while it “worked” then, we’ve fallen off it the last few months.
His sleep is SO unpredictable. One night he’ll sleep through the night. The next night he will start crying at 10pm. I’ve tried to let him cry through that first wakeup, but he is relentless – like screaming for 30/45 minutes and not slowing down. I just can’t do that. Maybe because he’s my last baby, but the consistency isn’t there for me.
So, I’m just going with it. When he cries (I still give him like 5-10 minutes to make sure he’s not just restless), I’ll go in and nurse him. Normally, it’s just once a night. Sometimes, it’s twice, which is brutal, especially after so 11 months of sleepless nights.
He’ll sleep through the night eventually. Right??
MILESTONES
He’s SO close to walking! He’s been cruising around for at least a month yet – on furniture and with this walking toy.
He “run crawls” and has so many bruises on his little forehead because he just GOES. Like, into walls and anything that’s in front of him. He’s an animal.
He’s still just babbling and saying Dadada and what sounds like “that” and “this” but I’m not sure it is.
He loves shaking his head no, which is hilarious because he puts his whole little body into it.
He waves and claps and it’s the cutest thing EVER.
