Happy Sunday, sweet friends!
I’ve received a few messages asking about our breastfeeding journey and I plan on sharing tips to get through those first few weeks of breastfeeding soon (because they are THE worst part and once you get through them, it’s so much better).
For today’s post, I wanted to focus on how to practice self care while breastfeeding. Because even when you get past those first tough weeks, breastfeeding can still be…trying.
Lately, I’ve been turning to Walmart for must haves for both my kiddos (remember this post?) and for me. I wanted to include online shopping as a self care tip (because let’s be honest, it helps to keep stay at home mamas sane, right??), and I’ve spent way more time than I’d like to admit scrolling Walmart and shopping for our family. Not to mention, their next day delivery has helped me out more than once. (Sharing some of our favorite finds at the bottom of the post.)
OK, time for all the coffee. What’s your favorite way to practice self care while breastfeeding? Would love to hear in the comments below!

But, first. Can we all just take a moment to recognize how amazing it is that we can make milk…from SCRATCH?
HOW TO PRACTICE SELF CARE WHILE BREASTFEEDING
NOURISH YOURSELF
Breastfeeding can be so draining (literally), especially in the first few months when baby is counting on me for all of his nutritional needs. It can be way too easy to forget to nourish myself. I’ve been roasting vegetables on the weekend, so I have something nutritional to eat throughout the week for lunch when there’s little to no time to cook.
DON’T FORGET INNER WELLNESS
Smarty Pants Prenatal Vitamins | Glow + Habit Probiotics
I still take my prenatal vitamins everyday while I’m breastfeeding and have recently started taking probiotics.
A few weeks ago, I had to go on antibiotics to battle a round of mastitis (no fun, but I caught it early). If you take antibiotics while breastfeeding, you need to take a probiotic to help prevent oral thrush, which is yeast in baby’s mouth.
(Check with your Dr before you take anything while breastfeeding.)
I was taking a different probiotic at first, but when I saw these were gummy, I was sold. Duh.
Walmart has an awesome selection of Inner Beauty + Wellness products, whether you’re breastfeeding or not. You can check them out here.
TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF
Whether that’s 20 minutes to soak in a tub while I read my favorite book (how AMAZING does that sound??) or taking time to get my hair done, I’ve found it’s SO important to prioritize taking time for myself.
And yes, I did recently bring the baby to the salon with me. But when you have 3 kids, spending time with just the baby feels like a vacation.
ENLIST SUPPORT
Your support system might look a little bit different, but this girl has been SUCH a big help this time around. While I’m not pumping yet, I will start soon and she is SO excited to help feed the baby. These bottles were the only ones that I used with my babies and they’re great for breastfeeding babes.
If you’re a first time mama, support might look like calling a Lactation Consultant. Getting baby to latch correctly is SO important early on. If you’re having a whole lot of pain, I highly suggest getting help sooner rather than later.
REST
Maybe the most important one. Remember when I said that breastfeeding can be hard? Even when things are ticking along and going well, it can be a lot. And I’m not sure about you, but for me, EVERYTHING is just so much harder and feels much more overwhelming when I’m tired. Sleep cures almost all…
