Obviously, I had to kick off the Sober Mom Life Cafe retreat with a coffee truck! This was such a neat experience, and the only change we’ll make is making sure we do it for both mornings instead of just one. Coffee is my love language and I love it even more when someone else makes it for me. And look at that Latte art! Gorgeous.
We invited Gigi Mao of Yoga With Gigi to the house to lead us in a yoga session Friday morning. If you’re in the Austin area, check out Gigi! She incorporated some awesome neighbor support moves (like supported Tree), which is perfect for a group of friends.
There were a few cold plunges in this pool throughout the weekend! We spent late nights in the hot tub and were happy to take quick dips in the 70 degree pool. Talk about exhilarating.
We had breakout sessions where we talked all about the hard and good stuff in life and sobriety.
Thank you to Noel, JoEll, Audrey, Alannah, Amanda and Kym (and Alison, Kristin and Michelle who couldn’t make the retreat) for being the BEST EVER moderators of our The Sober Mom Life Facebook group. It’s now the size of a city (bananas!) and these mamas help keep the group a safe space for women who are looking for a place to openly explore their relationship with alcohol without fear of judgment or backlash. Thank you, ladies!
On Saturday afternoon, we enjoyed a sound bath with Ethereal Sound Alchemy. Amanda was amazing and led us through a transformative experience. It was my third sound bath and one of my favorite experiences. If you’ve never tried a sound bath, I highly recommend it. It’s more than just sounds in the background of a nap. (For me, at least lol.) It’s almost trippy and I feel like I’m in another dimension. It’s hard to explain.
We took our Peer Support Zoom meetings IRL and also had sessions working through guilt, shame and focusing on self care. And a huge thanks to my rockstar mom for leading us through these conversations!
Getting ready to go out on the town!
We ate at Fixe in Austin (you HAVE to try the biscuits), and then headed to Sans Bar, the first non-alcoholic bar in North America. Such a cool feeling being at a bar and knowing everyone is sober and all drinks are ethanol-free.
The house was on 33 acres of gorgeous Texas land, so we went for hikes and walks every day.
My mom and Audrey out on a walk. I mean, how cute are these two?
We spoiled the ladies and brought in a personal chef on Saturday night. Chef Bria of A Cut Above Dining absolutely killed it. Her food was beyond delicious and I can’t tell you how nice it was not to have to worry about cooking and cleaning up. What an absolute treat.
Noel and JoEll! I can’t tell you how it felt to finally be able to give these ladies hugs in real life! They’ve both been coming to our Cafe meetings since the beginning (who remembers Patreon?!).
We did a Quit Lit book exchange and here are few of the books that were included. (Blackout is our SML Book Club pick for April. Join us in the SML Cafe!)
The aftermath of a sober weekend retreat. All of the fun and laughs, zero ethanol and shame.
Thank you to the Retreat Dream Team – Audrey, Jen and my mom. 😍
