Hi, sweet friends! I know. A health + wellness goals post in November is kind of like a post sharing my favorite cozy sweaters in July. It might not seem the most logical, but that’s exactly why I’m sharing it.
I’m not sure about you, but every year around this time my health and wellness goals go downhill. Like, faster than Frosty the Snowman running from that bad guy.
After Halloween, all bets are off until Christmas. And then why even try to get back on track in that weird and confusing time-space continuum between Christmas and the New Year? What am I, a monster??
No, I’m not a monster. (Unless it’s 7am and my kids have already asked me for 3786 snacks before I’ve been able to have a sip of my cold coffee.)
So, I’ve decided this year to be more proactive with my health and wellness goals.
First, though, let’s get something straight: my goals DO include allowing myself to enjoy the treats of the season. This is my favorite time of the whole year and there is no way I’m forgoing my Grandma’s cranberry bread that my mom makes every year for Thanksgiving or Christmas cookies.
But, here’s the thing – I know that indulging in extra treats can leave me feeling lethargic and not happy. So, here are my November health and wellness goals…
YOGA EVERY DAMN DAY.
This is a big one, and it’s been something I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time. So, why wait?? Why have January 1st as an arbitrary starting line, when I know this is something that can help me feel better today? Since Miraval, I’ve been wanting to incorporate yoga into my daily life again. So far, I’ve been able to find the time to fit it in every day and I can already tell a difference in how I feel in my body and mind.
PRIORITIZE SLEEP.
Alright, I admit that this one is easy for me. (Now, if only my kids could read this post and really take it to heart.) If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know that my mornings are precious to me. I love waking up before my kids and having a quiet house for an hour or so. It’s heaven. But, I still need a good 7-8 hours of sleep each night, so I tend to go to bed pretty early. Sleep is just something I don’t mess with.
DON’T FORGET MY GREENS.
I’ve fallen off enjoying my salad a few times a week for dinner, so I’m trying to get back to this. As a busy mom, it’s all too easy to eat grilled cheese crusts, bites of mac and cheese and left over tater tots for lunch or dinner. So, especially if I’m going to be enjoying holiday treats, I need to fuel my body with the good stuff, too.
WATER.
Why is it so hard for me to remember to drink water throughout the day??? I’m so good at drinking water during and after a workout, but in the chaos of my day I totally space it until I’m parched. So, I’m trying to be more intentional about having my water bottle with me all day long. It’s a work in progress.
