Minds Are Meant To Change

Lifestyle

June 1, 2020

Hi, sweet friends.

My heart is heavy. I don’t want to go ahead with business as usual today. I will continue to share what I have always shared, but not today.

I keep thinking about a phrase that I heard years ago: Minds are meant to change.

It’s one of my favorites.

Minds are meant to change.

And now, more than ever before, it’s time.

It’s time to challenge our thinking. To be curious and expand our minds. To do better. To be better.

So, how do we do that?

We ask questions and then we listen. We realize that we don’t have the answers, but we do have questions.

Here are a few questions I’m asking myself:

How can I make sure my home is built on a foundation of acceptance?

How do I talk to my 3 and 5 year old about race?

How can I use my platform in a respectful and productive way?

How can I become a better ally for ending racism?

What’s the difference between being non-racist and anti-racist?

What is white privilege and how have I benefitted?

Source unknown. Found on Instagram.

I’m still learning how I can be a light and use my platform productively. This weekend, as I normally do, I looked to Glennon Doyle, one of my favorite authors.

“You can’t say all lives matter until black lives matter.” – Glennon Doyle

THIS.

Before you glibly respond with “All lives matter” I encourage you to take a beat…

Minds are meant to change.

Thank you so much for addressing this. Really.

  2. Katie says:

Thank you for using your platform to take a stand. I have seen the slogan that white silence is white consent! As an aunt to two biracial nephews, I pray that their future is different and that they are not next. We have to do better!

    • suzanne says:

Thank you so much for your support, Katie! And I agree – we definitely HAVE to do better. xo

  3. Kelly says:

Thank you for sharing this! I think it’s so important that we all take time to reflect on what’s happening at the moment, our own relationship with race, our own privilege and how we can be better allies in the fight against racism. Thank you for sharing these resources with readers. Sending love.
