Mom Jeans, Mules + Mastitis

Mastitis sucks, right? (Oops. I mean: Happy Monday!) I’ve been hit with it 3 times with Evy and once with Harper and if you’ve never had it, count your sweet stars because WHOA.

The last time I had it, I reached out to my mama tribe for some home remedies and some ideas to help prevent it. And as always, they came through. I’m sharing them at the bottom of the post in case you’ve found yourself with that dreaded red mark and a fever that makes you want to curl up into a ball and cry. (Like I said: WHOA.)

OK, now to something way more fun: mom jeans.

I know. They’re dorky, right?

Welllllll…. Hear me out for a second.

I’m not talking about this kind of Mom jeans. Because YES, those are dorky and unflattering and should not see the light of day ever again.

The updated version of this 90’s trend is more flattering, comfortable and dare I say: chic. The high rise is a postpartum mama’s best friend and a welcome departure from the thong-exposing, muffin top-creating low rise jeans of the early 2000’s.

Although the pair I’m wearing is reasonably priced for denim, here is a more affordable option if you’re not quite sure about this new old trend.

Let’s talk mules. Are you loving them this fall as much as I am? They’re like slippers that are socially acceptable to wear in public. SOLD. The pair I’m wearing is on sale! And they also come in 2 other colors. How cute?

I’m also sharing my favorite pairs at the bottom of the post. (Like these furry guys, which you’ll be seeing on here soon!)

OK, time for all the coffee. Here’s to a sweet week!

(Do you mastitis tips? I want to hear them!)

(Totally not a doctor – this is all anecdotal!)
Work on getting the correct latch! If you think your baby isn’t latching right, find the nearest lactation consultant. (If you’re in the North Shore area, I highly recommend New Mother, New Baby.)
Take Sunflower Lecithin. (I have friends who swear by this.)
Avoid underwire bras like the plague.
No stomach sleeping. Sleep on your side or back.
Nurse your baby on a regular schedule to help avoid engorgement and plugged ducts.
Nurse, nurse, nurse.
(I know, it’s the last thing you want to do, but it will help it run its course.)
Rest as much as possible.
Take hot showers before nursing sessions.
Get on antibiotics. (I’ve had to do these every time I’ve had mastitis.
If it’s not getting better, get the drugs. They really do help.)
If you take antibiotics, make sure you also take a probiotic to help avoid Thrush.
