My Kind Of Eats: Cheddar + Apple Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Recipes

August 30, 2017

I shared these Cheddar + Apple Oatmeal Raisin cookies over a year ago, but it’s starting to feel like fall and that always makes me want to cozy up and bake, I thought I would dust the post off and share this delicious recipe again!

My mom used to make these oatmeal raisin cookies a lot when I was little. I’m pretty sure she considered them a health food since they don’t have a lot of sugar. (Don’t mind the butter and cheese. It’s Wisconsin.) The original recipe is from a 1980’s Quaker Oats cookbook that we still have.

I know it seems weird to put cheese in cookies, but believe me…it’s SO yummy. The unexpected combination of apples, cheddar and raisins really make these goodies a favorite in our home.

I make them often and Harper can’t get enough. OK, so they’re not a health food, but I don’t feel totally guilty giving them to her. And although I don’t normally eat much dairy these days, I can’t help but enjoy a couple of these. They’re just that good.

Enjoy!

These look tasty, and I would have never considered putting cheese in cookies-not cheddar cheese anyway. Maybe cream cheese. However, I’ve had weirder things that I loved… My mom makes this jello dessert that has cheddar cheese on top-and it sounds totally weird (and soooo Utah) but I love it. In fact it’s really the only way I love jello now. lol

Thanks so much for posting this recipe!!. I used to have that Quaker oatmeal cookbook. I lost it some years ago and have been trying to find a copy ever since. I even had someone from their marketing staff at a conference exhibit try to find it for me in their archives. I used to make these all the time in college for me an roommates. I have done searches for the recipe and now found your site! There were some great recipes in that little booklet. would love to get a copy of it. These are great little cookies for fast breakfast, snack, on the road or whenever.

I used to make these cookies for snacks in the car and for breakfast when we were traveling. I know the book you are talking about. I made the mistake of loaning it out and never got it back. I even wrote to Quaker Oats without getting any help. Thank you for the recipe.

  26. Andy says:

I stumbled upon this recipe because I enjoyed an oatmeal raisin cookie with cheddar cheese (which I thought was delightful!) and my coworkers treated me like a kid mixing together food in the cafeteria to see who could make the most disgusting creation. I was insistent that that cheese and sweets can actually be a wonderful combination! So glad to see other people enjoy this delicious flavor, and I will be sure to try this recipe soon!

    • suzanne says:

Ha! I’m so glad you found the recipe! These cookies are delicious and I think your coworkers would agree πŸ˜‰
