A Closet Staple: The Trench Coat

Happy Monday, friends. It was summer-like for about 5.7 minutes in Chicago, and now we’re back to dreary and gloomy and windy and cold, so it seems spring is going to stick around for a couple more weeks. On the bright side, what better excuse to pull out my trench coat?

(While we’re on the topic: does the trench coat remind anyone else of the iconic Breakfast At Tiffany’s scene? The one in the pouring the rain, when Audrey still looks impeccable, even though she’s just kicked her cat out of the car?)

Maybe it’s my undying obsession with all things Audrey, but I LOVE a good trench coat. It’s classic and timeless and ladylike and just overall perfect. Plus, it can be a mama’s best friend, since it instantly makes an outfit look pulled together and more polished. (Let’s be real: do you really need to wear a bra under a trench coat? Probs not.)

I’d been wanting a trench for a while and was so excited when The Mister got me this one for Christmas. (Granted, it didn’t fit my giant pregnant waistline, but whatevs.)

This one comes with a detachable liner, which is nice for colder weather. Personally, I like it much better without the liner. It fits better and feels less bulky.

(Style tip: The belt on a trench? Always tie it. Never buckle it. )

I paired my trench with my go-to leggings (if you don’t have a pair of these, you might want to reconsider your decision-making process in life) and my everyday kicks.

If my daily life didn’t revolve around chasing around the toddler tornado and cleaning up the same mess 84 times before noon, I would pair it with this pair of denim and these heels. But, I mean, let’s be real. That’s probably not gonna happen for like the next 12 years.

OK, that’s all I’ve got for today. Do you guys like the trench as much as I do?? I want to hear from you! (Otherwise I’m just talking to myself and that gets weird.) 🙂

XO

love this trench!!! i have a gorgeous burberry one that i never wear! it’s embarrassing to know i spent that money and i don’t put it on. I’m going to get it hemmed to that length because i think it’s just so much more approachable. love it!
