POSTPARTUM BODY IMAGE + A PUSH PRESENT

Looks, Mama

February 27, 2017

Well, this weekend FLEW by. Although, these days I don’t really know what day it is or what time it is…so it could still be the weekend and I just don’t know it. So, it turns out that over the course of 2.5 years,  I’d forgotten a lot about having a baby. Not about the actual birth, but the whole postpartum time…. Specifically, the fact that I still look quite pregnant, 3 weeks post-baby.

I’m itching to get back to it. To workout, sweat, eat right and fit into those pre-baby jeans.

BUT.

It’s different this time. There’s a toddler who needs me more than ever and a baby who is CONSTANTLY nursing. My life is fuller than ever and I haven’t quite figured out how to carve out that much needed ME time yet.

This is where my work comes in. Reminding myself that time will come. Not forgetting what my body’s been through. It created life, and is currently making milk from scratch to ensure that little life thrives.

This is where grace comes in. Remember when I wrote about giving myself grace during pregnancy? Well, I’m learning that extends to postpartum, too. I’m doing what I can, when I can.

I’m still wearing my favorite maternity leggings because I’m not ready to take the jump to regular leggings and because they’re just so damn comfortable it’s going to be a tough break up.

This jacket is THE perfect piece to transition to spring. I wear it as often as I possibly can.  (Here is a less expensive version; although, my jacket is worth every single penny.)

Ok, now it’s time for a HUGE shout out to my dear husband, who showered me with sparkly baubles last week. Thank you for making me feel special, loved and shiny. 😉 (I linked a wallet-friendly version in the widget above.)

Here’s to a sweet week…

XO

I honestly think one of my biggest struggles will be the acceptance that I cannot have it my way immediately after baby. As in, getting back to a routine, certain level of fitness etc like you mentioned.

I’m very used to things being just so and achieving what I want on my timeline. Although I’ll obviously give my everything to baby I can see how hard it is to find that natural flow again and I have to learn to be ok with a long period of adjustment!

You look fab. I mean, you looked fab right after she was born! You’re doing great and doing it in style, I’d never be able for TWO so kudos!

Such a great message. Thank you for your honesty. I am not saying this just to say it, but you look beautiful you are glowing from the inside out. Thats love. 🙂

Sounds like you’re doing great mama! I had no problem fitting back in my non-maternity clothes after my first two children, but the third was a whole other story. She’s almost two and I’ve yet to lose the extra 15 or so pounds I’ve been carrying since I had her. I told myself I was just hanging onto the weight because she was still nursing, but it’s been 8 months since I weaned her and alas, it’s still there. I struggle with making peace with it and I think I just need to give myself a little grace as you suggest. As you get a little more accustomed to having two little ones in the house, you’ll be able to find time to squeeze a workout in here and there. You rocked it after Harper – I have no doubt you’ll do it again! For now, just revel in the fact that your body grew this amazing human being!

Girl, you look amazing! Seriously, I wouldn’t have known you just had a baby if you didn’t mention it. Your push present is gorgeous. Good job, hubby!

  5. Melissa says:

You look great! I love this outfit and would have no idea it was maternity. Your husband did great on the gift too!

  6. Krysten says:

I still haven’t lost all of my baby weight and I’m 18 months PP. You look fantastic! I love that jacket! Good luck with the toddler and the new baby!

  7. Girl, you don’t look like you just had a baby!

A little kid told me they must have forgotten a twin inside me because I still looked pregnant! Haha I told her that was just my squishy mommy belly, ripe for the cuddles.

  9. Logan says:

Girl I am right there with you! struggling to find a balance of exercising and chasing two toddlers and nursing and eating healthy. It is a lot. Don’t forget to give yourself a lot of grace and rest! The rest will come in time.

Great message. I am 30 weeks – so I cringe at the reality of it. I, too, am looking to get my body back. But you look great! I recently stumbled across your blog and am thoroughly enjoying it! LOVE the fashion, especially this jacket. Which color did you go with?
