My Kind Of Reads

Someway, somehow, I’ve found the time and energy and motivation to start reading again and my life feels complete. I took a break from reading while I was living under a rock going through the First Trimester fog, since I wasn’t able to keep my eyes open for life, let alone to enjoy some quiet time and lose myself in a good read.

There’s just something about a good book. And there’s something even better about an amazing book. You know, the can’t-put-it-down-the-entire-world-can-fall-down-around-me-and-I’ll-keep-on-reading amazing kind of book. There are a couple of those on this list.

There are also a couple of escapism books. Girly, funny, light reads with pretty pastel covers. Because sometimes I just want to escape and not feel too much.

I know soon enough (in less than 5 months, actually) my time won’t be mine anymore, and my favorite books will once again be pushed to the side, replaced by nursing, burping, and soothing a newborn. So for now, I’m soaking it all in. I’m reading until I can’t possibly keep my heavy eyes open one more second. I’m getting up before the sun and the baby and the chaos, and diving in to another world.

So, tell me…what are you reading right now? What should I add to my list? Let me know!

Happy reading, sweet ones.

XO

Love Warrior by Glennon Doyle MeltonIf you’ve followed my blog for awhile, you know I am a huge fan GDM. She gets me. And if you loved her first book, Carry On Warrior, you will LOVE this one. If you’re a woman, if you’ve struggled, if you’re struggling, if you have lost yourself or if you are working on finding yourself, READ THIS. I finished it in less than 2 days and can’t wait to start it all over again. Talk about feeling empowered, loved, and…well, like a damn warrior.

First Comes Love by Emily Giffin – Perhaps my favorite escapism author of all time. I met her at a book signing years ago when I lived in Atlanta, shortly before her first book was released. She’s a real girl who is kind and I’ve loved every single one of her books. This latest one is all about family, love and following your heart.

Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott – I’ve inherited my love for Anne Lamott from my mom. I first read Help, Thanks, Wow (if you haven’t read it yet…go. Now.) She reminds me a lot of GDM. They’re both broken, real and badass. And full of faith.

By The Numbers by Jen Lancaster –  Seriously, I want to be best friends with this chick. I want to invite her over for a beer and just listen and laugh. She writes in such a relatable way and is hands down one of the funniest authors I’ve read. Her latest work is fiction, and while I like her non-fiction books a bit more, this was still an enjoyable read.

And next up on my list…

Oh my gosh – so happy I came across your post … your taste in books matches mine perfectly! Loooove Emily Giffin and Jen Lancaster – they’re two of my faves along with Sophie Kinsella. I just bought two books by Jenny Colgan that looked too good to pass up (I totally judge a book by it’s cover) … “Meet my at the Cupcake Cafe” and “Welcome to Rosie Hopkins’s Sweetshop of Dreams”. Starting one of them tonight.

First Comes Love is on my to-read list! I totally need to check out some of the rest though.

I’ve read Sh*tty Mom…amazing! I love Jen Lancaster, would totally been friends with this lady. I am currently reading The Girl From The Train, I’m not finished yet, but I am already ready to recommend to anyone!

What a great list, it looks like we have similar taste in books. I can’t decide which one I should read first!

Love your suggestions! I will have to put some of these on the list. I’m a bookworm – love to read, always have! xx, E

The first is on the list! Right up my alley!

  • Rachel Lynn

I bought a book by Emily Griffin (because I could never stop myself from buying books when I worked at B&N)! I never got around it reading it yet, but my best friend in high school swore by her! This summer I’ve been obsessed with Jonathan Stroud. He’s a YA novelist, but his books are absolutely amazing! If you like fantasy, definitely check out his “Lockwood and Co.” series and his “Bartimaeus Trilogy”. I just finished the last book in the trilogy this afternoon and was so shocked and amazed! 100,000% recommend

Those look like good reads! I’ll have to check some of them out!
