Remember when I told you I would keep it real?

Ok. So, I think I’ve done a pretty good job of that over here on the blog. I talk about the messiness of mama life and the challenges of trying to do it all. And don’t forget about that whole postpartum anxiety thing. (If you missed it, check it out here.)

But over on Instagram, it’s another story. Which is why when Alexie from Always Alexie  asked me if I wanted to join her in showing the real side of Instagram, I didn’t hesitate.

YOU GUYS. I just love sharing pretty pictures. I love making those little squares pleasing to the eye.

I realize, however, that it may be sending the wrong message. I might be leading you to believe that my life is always pretty. That my child is so well behaved, on Saturday mornings I can lounge in my clean pajamas while sipping coffee and reading my book. Or, that I’m always stylish and photo ready. (I’m NOT.)

I also realize that if you look at my pretty little squares and assume that is my whole life, you could start to compare, and it could make you feel bad about your real life.

And that just isn’t ok.

My life is just like yours. It’s not perfect. Sure, sometimes it’s pretty damn good. And sometimes I can make it pretty. For a minute or 2. Or just long enough to get an Instagram-worthy shot. But overall, it’s messy and complicated and hectic and at times, wonderful.

So I want you to know, that little box is NOT the whole story.

There’s always more.

Alexie has put together a group of some badass mama bloggers to share what goes on #BehindTheFeed, starting on June 8th. We will share our not-so-picture-perfect behind the scenes moments. The real stuff.

Find us on Instagram, and join in the fun. We want to see your real life messiness, too! Just tag #BehindTheFeed.

Here’s to keeping it real…

    • suzanne

      Thanks, girl!

  • Samantha

This is such a great idea and much needed every once in a while in the perfect little world of Instagram. Good for you girl!

    • suzanne

      Thanks, Samantha!

  • Heather with WELLFITandFED

Always good to keep it real and do an authenticity check. Instagram is a little that way for sure. Escp. if you want to keep a theme going or keep it looking really pretty. Not sure what that all means. THanks for the thoughts. xo

    • suzanne

Totally agree with keeping the theme of Instagram!

  • Sue at Blu

    Looks like a fun follow!

    • suzanne

      Thanks, Sue!

  • Dia All The Things I Do

this cracks me up. Instagram is for showing pretty pictures. Reserve rants and bedhead for snapchat or facebook! 🙂

    • suzanne

I’m not really one to rant on any form of social media. And I’m all about the pretty pictures (which will continue). A little reality check every once in a while never hurt anyone, though…

  • Jacqueline Snoderly

Love this! It’s always nice to know we are all in the same, messy boat! LOL!!! 🙂

    • suzanne

      Exactly! 🙂

  • Elaine McKellips

I love the marble “Escape the Ordinary” journal. I have the pink cloth covered one and I love it! Your site is beautiful! Love the realness behind this post. 🙂

  • Valencia Renee

Love this ! Mommyhood is so messy but worth it 🙂

  • Miriah

I followed all the accounts and will be leaving hashtags soon. Thanks for sharing!

  • Tessa Kirby

I literally think this same thing all the time! I love making my Instagram feed asthetically pleasing but I often think what kind of picture it paints and how deceiving that can be. I love this idea!

  • Jenny

How cool is this? Sometimes we forget that Instagram is just a little snippet into other’s lives and that we aren’t getting the full picture.

    xoxo, Jenny

  • Morgan

Love it! Great job mamas, will be tuning in on June 8th! xx

  • The Home Loving Wife

This is going to be awesome, I can feel it!! Good for you mama – so inspiring!! xo

  • Becky @ Welcome to My Life, Part 2

I love behind the scenes look at things, and pull backs to see how a photo shoot was set up because it’s never as glamorous as the photo turns out to be. Thank you for reminding us that life on the internet isn’t a true representation of life away from the computer.

  • Danielle Greco

Super cute idea. Can’t wait to see what #behindthefeed pics you all post. That’ll be cute to watch for!! haha I’m sure by habit you’ll even make the fake pics somewhat adorable!!! That just part of being a blogger, Idk if we can help it! We just like things pretty even if we don’t try!
