Remember when I told you I would keep it real?
Ok. So, I think I’ve done a pretty good job of that over here on the blog. I talk about the messiness of mama life and the challenges of trying to do it all. And don’t forget about that whole postpartum anxiety thing. (If you missed it, check it out here.)
But over on Instagram, it’s another story. Which is why when Alexie from Always Alexie asked me if I wanted to join her in showing the real side of Instagram, I didn’t hesitate.
YOU GUYS. I just love sharing pretty pictures. I love making those little squares pleasing to the eye.
I realize, however, that it may be sending the wrong message. I might be leading you to believe that my life is always pretty. That my child is so well behaved, on Saturday mornings I can lounge in my clean pajamas while sipping coffee and reading my book. Or, that I’m always stylish and photo ready. (I’m NOT.)
I also realize that if you look at my pretty little squares and assume that is my whole life, you could start to compare, and it could make you feel bad about your real life.
And that just isn’t ok.
My life is just like yours. It’s not perfect. Sure, sometimes it’s pretty damn good. And sometimes I can make it pretty. For a minute or 2. Or just long enough to get an Instagram-worthy shot. But overall, it’s messy and complicated and hectic and at times, wonderful.
So I want you to know, that little box is NOT the whole story.
There’s always more.
Alexie has put together a group of some badass mama bloggers to share what goes on #BehindTheFeed, starting on June 8th. We will share our not-so-picture-perfect behind the scenes moments. The real stuff.
Find us on Instagram, and join in the fun. We want to see your real life messiness, too! Just tag #BehindTheFeed.
Here’s to keeping it real…
