A Mother’s Promise To My Daughter

Lifestyle, Mama

March 23, 2016

(Thank you to Pampers Premium and WalMart for sponsoring this Mother’s Promise post. All opinions expressed are my own.)

When Pampers and Walmart reached out to me and asked me to share my Mother’s Promise to Harper, I went into a slight panic.

Ummm…like one promise? How can I possibly write about ONE promise to my little toddler-shaped heart and soul? Where do I begin? My heart is FILLED with promises to her. Every breath I take is made up of promises to my daughter.

So, I decided to think big picture. An overall promise.

I want Harper to grow up to be kind and to love BIG, starting with herself.

And if I want her to do that, it only makes sense that I do that. I promise to show her how to love BIG and be kind, and I will start with myself.

I promise to teach her to love her body. Every single square inch of imperfect perfection. And so, I will love my body. I will love my body by feeding it good foods, treating it well with yoga and sweat sessions, and I will be kind to my body. I will show her there is no room for negative body talk. I will show my girl that God made her exactly the way she is supposed to be (and we definitely don’t want to knock God’s masterpiece, am I right?).

I promise to teach her to be kind to herself, especially on her worst days. She will fall. She will fail. She will break. The world will be hard. I will show her it’s ok to give herself time to heal. Time to learn from her mistakes. Time to cry and weep and kick and scream. And then, she will decide when it’s time to dust herself off and start again.

I promise to teach her how to be kind to others. I will show her how to be charitable and how to help those who need help the most.  I will show her how to reach out and make a difference in the world. I will show her how to meet in the middle and how to try to understand the other side. I will teach her that a smile and a kind word go a long way.

I promise to teach her to love BIG. To open her heart and be vulnerable. To share and connect. To support those around her. I will teach her simply to LOVE.

And, I promise to love HER big. HUGE. Every day, just as she is, whoever she decides to become.

It was important for me to have something I could look at to keep my promise to Harper top of mind. I didn’t want it to get lost in the piles of laundry and loads of dishes.

I created a small, simple reminder using fabric markers  + 5×7 canvas, and placed it on a shelf in her nursery. This way, it’s always there for both us to see and remember the promise I made to my little girl.

Being kind to my baby includes using the best quality diapers. Pampers Premium Care are 5 star skin care diapers, hypoallergenic, breathable inside + out, and extra absorbent with their unique absorb away liner. They have extra absorb channels and a wetness indicator, which is a mama’s dream and takes all of the guesswork out of it. They’re available at Walmart or Walmart.com, or by clicking here.
